4 May 2020
We are saddened to hear of the passing of the former Executive Director, and Honorary Life Member, of the New South Wales Bar Association and Chief Executive Officer and Life Member of the Australian Bar Association, Mr Philip Selth OAM.
Philip’s commitment and tireless contribution to the work of the Law Council during his extensive career with the New South Wales Bar Association was always directed to ensuring that the Law Council and the Bar were in step and of one voice on a myriad of issues that for many decades both challenged and propelled the legal profession in Australia. The Law Council staff and Directors who worked closely with Philip during this time remember him with great fondness and held him in high esteem.
Philip was appointed as Alternate Director of the Law Council for the New South Wales Bar Association in which capacity he served with great dedication in supporting and promoting the ultimate aims and goals of the Law Council, and was highly regarded by his peers around the Directors’ table.
He was also a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and made a life member of the New South Wales Bar Association on 6 October 2016 and a Life Member of the Australian Bar Association on 30 April 2016 having served the ABA from 1998 including as CEO from February 2015.
A tireless advocate for the legal profession, Philip enjoyed the trust and respect with all whom he worked.
Our condolences to his wife Frances and family.
