Drug Testing Trial Bill
2 May 2018
The Law Council provided a submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs regarding the Social Services Legislation Amendment (Drug Testing Trial) Bill 2018. The Bill seeks to trial drug testing for certain welfare recipients in Logan, QLD, Canterbury-Bankstown, NSW, and Mandurah, WA.
The Law Council’s submission affirms the concerns previously raised by the Law Council in its submission on the Social Services Legislation Amendment (Welfare Reform) Bill 2017, as Schedule 12 of the 2017 Welfare Reform Bill – which was removed by amendment prior to the passage of that Bill – is virtually identical to the current Drug Testing Trial Bill.
