Global legal minds gather in Prague for IBA Bar Leaders Conference

Law Council President Tania Wolff and Head of International Charlotte Stubbs represented the Law Council of Australia at the International Bar Association (IBA) Bar Leaders Conference and Mid-Year leadership meetings in Prague from 20 – 23 May 2026.

During the Conference, President Wolff co-moderated a series of roundtable discussions with Bar Leaders and representatives on the topic of ‘Bars and Gender Equality’ alongside Alessandra Nascimento Silva e Figueiredo Mourão.

The President and Ms Stubbs met with the Law Council of Australia’s counterpart legal professional bodies including the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of England and Wales, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, and the Bar Council of England and Wales, to discuss matters of shared interest including child justice, advocacy by professional bodies, independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.

In the margins of the Conference, Ms Stubbs also attended meetings of the Bar Issues Commission International Trade in Legal Services Committee. 

On the final day of meetings, President Wolff represented the Australian legal profession at the biannual IBA Council Meeting which brings together representatives from legal professional bodies around the world.
