Heinrich appointed honorary life president of the Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association
24 April 2019
New South Wales solicitor, and former president of the Law Council, Ron Heinrich AM has been appointed an honorary life president of the Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association.
The prestigious - and rare - honour was bestowed at the biennial Commonwealth Law Conference, held in Livingstone, Zambia.
It recognised Ron’s outstanding commitment to the law, the profession, and the rule of law throughout the Commonwealth over many years. The conference attracted around 650 delegates from all over the Commonwealth, comprising more than 50 plenary and business sessions focussed on both legal practice and human rights issues of concern to members.
Australian lawyers, judges and academics were well represented in the central African republic.
The conference was opened by the President of Zambia, and the Commonwealth Secretary General, Baroness Patricia Scotland, who also gave a keynote address.
The Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association is open to membership for individual lawyers around the Commonwealth. The next Commonwealth Law Conference will be held in Nassau, in the Bahamas, in early 2020.
