International Bar Association Annual Conference in Toronto

Law Council President Juliana Warner and Head of International Charlotte Stubbs represented the Law Council of Australia at the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference in Toronto from 2–7 November 2025.
During the conference, the Law Council hosted a Bar Breakfast event with the Japan Federation of Bar Associations on Money Laundering Regulations and the obligations of lawyers – the role of Bar Associations. The session was moderated by Mitch Hillier, Executive Director Law Firms Australia and Kosuke Oie, Director of the Office of International Affairs at the Japan Federation of Bar Associations. President Warner participated as a panellist, alongside Kimitoshi Yabuki, Japan Federation of Bar Associations, Noah Arshinoff, Policy Counsel, Federation of Law Societies of Canada, and Gary Hughes, Co-Chair IBA AML & Sanctions Expert Sub-committee.
President Warner represented the Law Council at the IBA Council Meeting and participated as a panellist in the Bar Issues Commission Showcase session Time to let go – defining legal services and the role of lawyers.
The Law Council hosted a wine tasting reception at the University Club of Toronto attended by more than 150 lawyers from Australia and around the world. Her Excellency Ms Kate Logan, Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada, delivered opening remarks at the event.
In the margins of the conference, the President met bilaterally with Michelle Behnke, President of the American Bar Association, Bianca Kratt, President of the Canadian Bar Association, Mark Evans, President of the Law Society of England and Wales, Barbara Mills KC, Chair of the Bar of England and Wales, Lin-Lin Lee, President of the Taiwan Bar Association and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada AML Committee.
