Korean Delegation

16 December 2019

At the request of Korea’s Ministry of Justice, on Monday, 16 December 2019 the Law Council Secretariat held a working level meeting with representatives from the Ministry as well as officers from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and private practitioners to discuss Korea’s legal market liberalisation under the Korea–Australia Free Trade Agreement (KAFTA). The meeting coincided with the third phase of Korea’s legal market liberalisation under KAFTA.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share Australia’s experience on the internationalisation of legal services and to encourage bilateral cooperation in legal services between Australia and Korea.

Other subjects discussed included investor-state dispute resolution (ISDS) and the possible employment/internship of Korean law school graduates with larger firms in Australia.

The meeting was productive, and discussions will continue.
