LCA welcomes new entitlements proposed under the Family and Domestic Violence Leave Bill

17 October 2018

Law Council representatives led by Mr Arthur Moses SC, President-elect, gave evidence before the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee in relation to the Fair Work Amendment (Family and Domestic Violence Leave) Bill 2018.

Law Council representatives welcomed the new entitlement in the National Employment Standards proposed under the Bill, being five days of unpaid family and domestic violence leave, as a critical step in the right direction. However, they also noted that future consideration should be given to increasing the entitlement to ten days of paid leave.

The Hansard transcript of the hearing can be viewed on the APH website.

The Law Council’s written submission can be viewed here.
