Media freedoms - striking a balance
21 November 2019
Last week the Law Council's Business Law Section hosted a Media and Communications Seminar in Sydney, which focused on the significant legal challengers in the ever-evolving regulatory landscape of the communications sector.
The seminar was joined by keynote speakers Rod Sims, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Chair, Angelene Falk, Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner, and Arthur Moses SC, Law Council of Australia President.
Mr Sims and Ms Falk discussed the implications of the ACCC’s Digital Platforms Inquiry.
Mr Moses SC spoke on media freedoms and whether the current Australian regulatory framework has the balance right in guarding national security interests, while adequately protecting journalists and supporting the provision of high-quality news. Read speech.
