Last week, Law Council President Tania Wolff and CEO James Popple travelled to Wellington to meet with counterparts at New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa.
President Wolff delivered an address to the NZLS Council on Friday, reflecting on shared challenges facing the profession including pressures on the legal assistance sector, and growing regulatory and compliance burdens and costs. The President shared the Law Council’s activities to promote good lawmaking through its Best Practice Legislative Development Checklist, and underscored the importance that government policy decisions consider the downstream effects of new laws on courts, legal assistance services and the broader justice system.
The Law Council thanks outgoing President Frazer Barton for his service to New Zealand’s legal profession, and congratulates David Campbell on his appointment as President of New Zealand Law Society.
