New Modern Slavery Act on the horizon
16 May 2018
A Modern Slavery Reporting Requirement will be introduced as part of the new Modern Slavery Act.
More than 3,000 large corporations and other entities will be required to publish annual public statements on their actions to address modern slavery in their supply chains and operations under the proposed new legislation.
The Australian Government plans to introduce the legislation to Parliament by mid-2018.
The Law Council has been supportive of the establishment of a Modern Slavery Act in Australia, particularly the inclusion of reporting requirements.
