Administrative Law Committee

The primary purpose of the Administrative Law Committee is to contribute to the Law Council’s development of submissions it makes to inquiries, and its consideration of other law reform initiatives that raise administrative law issues, and extending to more general public law issues.

The Committee may write draft submissions in response to alerts that the Law Council provides regarding pending inquiries, or may initiate consideration of a topic itself. In some cases the Committee drafts a communication to a relevant decision-maker, advocating the adoption of a policy course of general significance to the system of administrative justice, recommending its adoption by the Law Council.

The Committee meets regularly and is comprised of members with experience in administrative law, as practitioners and as academics. The Committee’s most recent work in 2024 included commenting on the proposal to introduce the ART and its constituent legislation and proposed practice notes.
