2015: Ian Kennedy AM

The Law Council of Australia announced Ian Kennedy AM as the recipient of the 2015 Law Council of Australia President’s Medal.

Mr Kennedy was nominated to receive the award by the Family Law Section in recognition of his longstanding commitment to making a difference to family law in Australia and the legal profession.

In presenting the award, Law Council President Duncan McConnel said Mr Kennedy's enormous contribution to the development of family law in Australia has been inspirational.

"He has improved its reputation and standing – and the professional standards of those who practice it - both in the Australian and international legal communities".

In his acceptance speech, Mr Kennedy said he was deeply honoured to receive the Law Council President’s Medal.

"I am particularly proud to accept the award as the first specialist family lawyer to be honoured in this way. I am proud to be a member of this profession. I am prouder to be a family lawyer, a Family Law Section member and part of the Law Council family".
