President's Award
In 2007, the Law Council introduced the 'Presidents Medal' – an award recognising an individual for their outstanding contribution to the legal profession. In 2017, the name was changed to the 'President's Award'.
The eligibility criteria for the award requires that the candidate be an Australian lawyer and person of good standing in the legal profession who has brought credit on the legal profession through a personal or professional commitment to the promotion or defence of the rule of law or of the public interest, or the administration of justice within Australia, or the development and improvement of law or the administration of justice throughout Australia, or the upholding of the honour and integrity of the Australian legal profession or the Australian judiciary.
The candidate must be an “outstanding example to the Australian legal profession and to those who might seek to join the ranks of the profession”.
